PURPOSE:To improve the flaw detecting power of a cylindrical body to be examined by controlling the ultrasonic wave transmitting and receiving directions of a probe forming an array in such a way as to be made in the normal direction of a desired involute curve. CONSTITUTION:An arrayed ultrasonic probe 1 that contacts via a shoe 1a with a cylindrical body P to be examined is successively controlled with a prescribed delay, and the transmitting and receiving directions of each probe are made in the normal direction of an involute curve II generated by an evolute curve II. The incident angle of the transmitted wave and the reflection angle of the received wave of each probe are thus made constant and the specified incidence and reflection efficiency of the ultrasonic beam on the inside and outside circumferential surfaces of the body to be examined are maintained, by which the sensitivity in flaw detection is made uniform and the efficiency in the ultrasonic flaw detection of the cylindrical object to be examined is improved. When the curve II is changed, the curve I changes as well and the direction of the ultrasonic flaw detection is made into a desired direction. |
