PURPOSE:To reduce the power of a plurality of A/D converting mechanisms and miniaturize them, and to form them on the same substrate as a solid-state image pickup deivce by providing the A/D converting mechanisms while beind made correspond to the vertical signal reading sections of the solid-state image pickup device. CONSTITUTION:When vertical select lines 19 are selected by selective pulses outputted from a vertical shift register 14, optical image signals are each transmitted over corresponding vertical signal lines 16a-16d from photodiodes 11a- 11d by the selection of the vertical select lines 19, and transferred severally to corresponding buffers 17a-17d. The signals are each voltage-amplified equivalently at that time. These signals are converted respectively into digital signals by A/D converting mechanisms 3a-3d. These digital signals are read in succession in multiplexers 15. According to the constitution, signals originally operating at high speed called video signals can be processed during a sufficient conversion time by processing picture signals in parallel in the line direction. Consequently, the power of the A/D converting mechanisms can be reduced and the mechanisms can be miniaturized, and the mechanisms can be formed on the same substrate as a solid-state image pickup device. |
