The subject of the present invention is a deposit taking and returning device for utility objects, such as baggage trolleys, objects which the public may pick up directly in a common storage space and which should be brought back to the said storage space. The device comprises a lock 3 making it possible to automatically fasten each object 2% to the neighbouring object 2 or to a fixed point in locked storage position, a lock into which is inserted a coin 4 in order to allow unfastening of the lock 3 and freeing of the object 2% by traction, the said lock being arranged to return the said coin when the object is brought back to its storage space and is fastened to a neighbouring object or to a fixed point, and is characterised in that the unfastening is carried out by the said traction.
