PURPOSE:To efficiently reduce an organic halogen compound in tap water, by applying ionizable radiant rays to raw service water, while injecting ozone-contg. gas into the raw service water to dissolve ozone therein. CONSTITUTION:Raw service water is treated by applying ionizable radiant rays to the raw water, while injecting ozone-contg. oxygen or air into the raw service water to dissolve ozone therein. There is no special restriction on a condition for applying said ionizable radiant rays, any of alpha, deutron, proton, beta, electron, gamma and X rays may be used as the ionizable radiant rays. By the method aforementioned, the formation of an organic halogen compound caused by chlorination can be suppressed at a sufficient low concentration in the broad range of treating conditions such as a treating temp., the pH of raw water and the concentration of supplied ozone.
