PURPOSE:To reduce the total length of a base frame and to improve operating efficiency by reducing the drawing operation of a wire rod by travelling a truck reciprocatingly. CONSTITUTION:After moving a truck 4A to the end of a base frame 3 at the side of a chucking device 9A, and inserting the front tip of a wire rod 1 through the inside of a die 10A to hold said tip by the device 9A, a hook 6A of the truc 4A is locked to a pin 8 of an endless chain 7. The die 10A is drawn out from the free end of the rod 1 by moving the truck 4A from the fixed end side of the rod 1 to the free end side of it. Next, the die 10A is exchangeged with a die smaller in diameter than the former, and the truck 4A and the rod 1 are moved together to the end of the frame 2 at the side of a chucking device 9B. The other end of the rod 1 is inserted in the die 10B and is held by the device 9B, and the die 10B is drawn out from the free end of the rod by travelling the truck 4A reversely to the forward path. In this way, by repeating alternately the radial reductions of the rod 1 through forward and backward paths, the rod 1 is reduced to a prescribed diameter. |
