RD-12290 FEED SYSTEM FOR RADIATING ELLIPTICALLY POLARIZED ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES IN MICROWAVE OVEN The heating uniformity of a microwave oven is significantly improved by a feed that radiates elliptically polarized electromagnetic waves. A pair of corssed slots in the feed rectangular waveguide has directional characteristics and radiates energy with right-hand and left-hand circular polarization. A variable phase shifter in the waveguide changes the phase of one of the polarizations. Both polarizations interfere in the oven cavity and produce rotating elliptically polarized waves. The circular polarizing element can be a 3-dB hybrid coupler or a turnstile junction.
