PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive fluorescent crystal particle in high yields without necessitating a grinding process, by melting a stock material mixture of the fluorescent substance while spraying the melt into a gaseous phase to cool and pulverize the same. CONSTITUTION:Stock materials for a fluorescent substance such as barium fluoride, barium chloride, magnesium flouoride or europium oxide are respectively weighed in predetermined amounts to be mixed and the resulting mixture is melted under heating. The melt is sprayed into an inert atmosphere along with inert gas such as nitrogen gas under pressure from a nozzle and cooled therein to obtain a fluorescent crystal particle which is, in turn, baked according to necessity to obtain an objective fluorescent substance. Especially pref. fluorescent substances to which this inventive production method can be applied include a fluoride fluorescent substance (e.g., a divalent europium activated divalent metal fluoride fluorescent substance) and an oxyhalide fluorescent substance.
