COATING METHOD FOR METAL SURFACE

PURPOSE:To obtain a coating layer suited to a steel pipe for carrying curde oil or the like, etc., by forming the layer of specified denatured polyethylene on the primer layer of thermosetting epoxy resin and then further forming a polyethylene layer thereon. CONSTITUTION:After thermosetting epoxy resin is applied onto a preheated metal surface to form a primer layer, denatured polyethylene of a melt index below 3g/10min obtd. by melt kneading polyethylene and unsaturated carboxylic acid or its anhydride as a denaturing agent in the presence of a radical reaction initiator is fused to the surface of said primer layer to form a denatured polyethylene layer. Thereafter, polyethylene is fused to the surface of said denatured polyethylene layer to form the coating layer of polyethylene. A preheating temp. for said metal surface is pref. 100-300 deg.C.
