PROCESS FOR PRODUCING 2-MERCAPTOETHYLAMINE HYDROHALIDES

A process is disclosed for producing 2-mercaptoethylamine hydrobalides of the general formula: (111) wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different and each represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy lower alkyl or phenyl and X represents halogen, which process comprises reacting a 2-mercaptothiszoline of the general formula: (I) with a 2-halogenoethylamine hydrohalide of the general formula: (II) wherein R1 to R4 and X are as defined above, in the presence of water. The 2-morcaptoethylamine hydrohalides (111) are obtained in high purity by a safer and less expensive process.
