PURPOSE:To raise sensitivity and to prevent fog by using for a silver halide emulsion layer, silver halide grains having the crystal grains of silver iodobromide different in the content of silver iodide between the insie and outsie parts of each grain, a specified grain diameter distribution, round vertices of the surface of each crystal, and sensitivity sensitized with a specified sensitizing dye. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide emulsion of a silver halide photosensitive material contains monodispersed silver halide grains having octahedral or tetradecahedral crystal grains made of silver iodobromide different in the content of silver bromide between the inside and outside, and a grain size distribution expressed by the following relationship: s>a.d.>=0.20, where (s) is standard deviation of said distribution and (a.d.) is the average diameter of the silver halide grains. The vertices of the surfaces of said crystal grains are slightly rounded, and said grains are sensitized with one of sensitizers having formulae I -III in which Y1-Y4 and Y9-Y12 are each H, halogen, or the like: R1-R11 are each H or alkyl; (n), (m) are each 1 or 2; and X1-X3 are each an anion. The use of such silver halide grains can retain superior photographic characteristics even during long time storage in a sol state after photosensitization. |
