In a six-cylinder V-engine having the cylinder rows at a narrow angle in the same cylinder block with a common cylinder head, the cylinders are fed in groups of three by separate induction passages 7, 12, entering at opposite sides of the cylinder head, each passage feeding the end cylinder of one row and the two immediately adjacent cylinders of the opposite row. Intake passage 7 feeds the inlet port 11 of cylinder 2 in one row and ports 9, 10, of cylinders 1, 3, in the other row whilst passage 12 feeds inlet port 15 of cylinder 5 in one row and ports 13, 14, of cylinders 4, 6, of the other row. The passages 7, 12, are interconnected by a pressure equalizing duct 16. Separate carburetters 17, 18, are provided on each intake passage, the throttle valves being connected to a rotatable ring 21, mounted on the valve cover, for conjoint operation by the throttle control 23. The overhead valves are operated by an overhead camshaft.
