PURPOSE:To cool uniformly various billets having different width sizes by providing a stationary main mist nozzle above the central part of a billet, and adjusting the spraying range for the billet with the auxiliary mist nozzles provided freely vertically movably on the right and left thereof. CONSTITUTION:A main mist nozzle 1 having a spray pattern of cooling water laterally symmetrical relatively with the axial line of the nozzle is fixed above the central part in the transverse direction of a billet 3, and auxiliary mist nozzles 2, 2 having the spray pattern of the cooling water facing outward relatively with the axial line of the nozzles are installed symmetrically on both sides of the main mist nozzle freely vertically movably. The nozzle 1 is installed at the height at which the cooling water sprayed from said nozzle covers the part except both ends in the transverse direction of the billet 3 having the smallest size. The cooling water is sprayed only from the nozzle 1 in the case of cooling the billet 3 having the smallest width. The cooling water is sprayed from the nozzles 1, 2 and the height of the nozzles 2 is so adjusted as to prevent the cooling water from being sprayed to both ends in the transverse direction of the billet 3 to prevent overcooling thereof in the case of cooling the broader billet 3. |
