PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which yields a rod material having a smooth surface characteristic by the constitution in which molten metal flow is charged and solidified in a moving trough having the U or U-O-U shape formed on an upper traveling surface of an endless belt by trough guides. CONSTITUTION:An endless belt 3 consisting of a soft heat-resistant light-gauge sheet material having high heat conductivity is set on a pair of pulleys 1, 2 and is run. A moving trough 6 of a U shape or U-O-U shape is formed on the top traveling surface of the belt 3 by bending and deforming said surface in the transverse direction of the belt by means of several pairs of trough guides 4 consisting of plural guide rollers 4a. A closing member 9 is fixed to the beginning end 6' of the moving trough and a molten metal 11 is charged from a tundish 10 via a charging nozzle 12 opened in the trough through said member into the moving trough 6. The molten steel is enveloped with the sheet 3 and while heat is radiated from the molten steel, the steel is advanced to form a solidified shell 13. A half round or round rod material is drawn out as a billet 14 from the terminal part 6'' of the moving trough. |
