PURPOSE:To improve remarkably the yield of a hot strip by providing sheet- width controlling functions to two final vertical mills, in a group of roughing mills formed by arranging verical mills and horizontal ones alternately. CONSTITUTION:A group of roughing mills is formed by arranging horizontal mills R1-R6 and vertical mills E1-E6 alternately. An arithmetic device 3 calculates a set value of roll gap of each vertical mill basing on the various pieces of information of a host computer 2, and roll gap-controlling arithmetic devices 4, 5 are provided to the mills E4, E5 functioning as sheet-width controlling stands to which the edging quantities of given values are given previously (mill E6 is a dummy stand). The roll-gap set values are obtained by deciding the edging quantities of the mills E1-E3 so that the sheet widths at the outlet sides of a group of the roughing mills attain the target widths. A roll-gap controlling quantity obtained by the device 4 of the mill E4 from the information of the mills E1-E3 after starting the rolling is given to the mill E4, and further the roll gap controlling quantity is given to the mill E5 by the device 5 of the mill E5. |
