PURPOSE:To cool uniformly various billets having different width sizes by providing a main mist nozzle above the central part in the transverse direction of billet to spray laterally symmetrically cooling water therefrom and spraying outward the cooling water with auxiliary mist nozzles. CONSTITUTION:A main mist nozzle 1 having a laterally symmetrical spray pattern of cooling water relatively with the axial line of the nozzle is installed above the central part in the transverse direction of a billet 2 and auxiliary mist nozzles 3, 3 having the spray pattern of the cooling water only on the one side relatively with the axial line of the nozzle are installed on both sides of said nozzle symmetrically with the nozzle 1 so as to face outward. The cooling of the billet 2 using such nozzles 1, 3 is accomplished by spraying the cooling water only from the mist nozzle 1 to the part except both ends in the transverse direction of the billet 2 in the case of the smallest width billet and by spraying the cooling water from the nozzles 1, 3 and controlling the spraying rate so as to make the spraying rate from the nozzle 1 highest in the case of the broad billet 2. The billet 2 is thus uniformly cooling without overcooling at both ends in the transverse direction of the billet 2. |
