Articulated doll with moving face

An articulated doll with a moving face, described here as "a mannequin with live facial features" is disclosed, in which human facial expressions can be simulated. A rigid substrate in the form of a head is partially covered by elongate hoses filled with a pressure medium. The hoses, described as hose-type drive or motor elements, are covered by a deformable layer or embedded in the latter, whose outside surface is textured and coloured in such a way that it forms an artificial face skin. By changing the fluid pressure in different groups of the hoses, different facial expressions can be simulated. In another embodiment, instead of the hoses helical springs are used, through which direct current is transmitted so that they contract and deform the artificial skin. In yet another embodiment, a net or mesh of parallel wires is arranged in the artificial skin, the flow of direct current through selected sections of selected pairs of wires causing the latter to move relative to one another at right angles to their length and thus to deform the skin.
