In a blackout device (1) with a roller shutter (2), a roller-shutter box (3), a roller (4), arranged in the roller-shutter box (3), for winding up the roller shutter (2), and an electric motor (5) provided in the roller-shutter box (3), in which the electric motor (5) is arranged preferably coaxially with and inside the roller (4) as a so-called tubular motor, optimum results are achieved in terms of installation, control and handling in that a control unit (6) for the electric motor (5) is provided and the control unit (6) is arranged in direct proximity to the electric motor (5), preferably on the room-side wall (7) of the roller-shutter box (3), and provided with a remote-control receiving part (8), and in that a remote-control transmitting part (9) is provided for actuating the electric motor (5). <IMAGE>
