Amine salts substituted by N-phoshonomethyl ureas (I: R, R', R" independently=C1-4 alkyl; a=1 or 2; b=2 or 3; a+b=4; c=1 or 2; d=o or 1; c+d=2), useful as plant growth requlators, were prepd. Thus, a mixt. contg. 100mL chloroform, 45.4g N, N-dimethyl-N'-carboethoxymethyl, and 9.0g p-formalde-hyde was reacted with 35.4g conc. thionyl in chloroform to give 53.4g N, N-dimethyl-N'-carboethoxymethyl-N'-chloromethyl urea. A compn. contg. the resulting product and a stable matrix (0.001-0.9:1 wt. /wt.) were found to be, in combination, a good plant growth requlator.
