A fluidised combustion bed (12) is divided by a hollow baffle (8) into two regions (14, 15) which are fluidised at respectively higher and lower fluidising velocities. Exhaust gases and elutriated particles leaving the region (14) pass into the freeboard (10) and around the baffle (8), the particles being deposited after such passage into the region (15) and the gases flowing into the baffle (8) for exhaust. |
