In the case of a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine having a cooling liquid system, which contains a heat exchanger and where necessary an expansion tank and a circulating pump, a device for collection of the liquid is proposed, which in the event of damage of the seal of the circulating pump catches the liquid escaping from this. At the same time a collecting vessel is proposed, which is connected to a chamber in the circulating pump, leaked liquid being fed back into the cooling system by way of a liquid line (single fig.)
