Provided in a protective helmet for motorcyclists is an element, e.g. a compression spring, which is elastically deformable above a particular travelling speed due to compression effect. By means of this spring, an air gap is produced between the protective helmet and the visor insert. At higher travelling speeds, the spring is compressed and the visor insert thus rests firmly against the helmet.
