This wheel is particularly suitable for dental work on teeth in the mouth of a patient, in that no metallic parts are exposed and the wheel (20) is mounted on the head (12) of the wheel adaptor (10) so as to be fixed in terms of rotation. The head (12) has a support disc (15), exhibiting a flat bearing surface (11), and a counter-holder (17) held at a distance therefrom by grooves (16). The grooves (16) engage behind the counter-holder (17). The hole (21) in the wheel (20) has the same contour lines with the same dimensions as the counter-holder (17) which can therefore be inserted into the hole (21) in a positive-locking manner. The straight groove floor (18) of the grooves (16) provides a bearing surface for the longitudinal edges (22, 23) of the hole (21). The wheel (20) is thus fixed in terms of rotation simply by pushing the counter-holder (17) through, and subsequently twisting it. The time-consuming selection of right- and left-handed threads or the force-fitting of plug-in elements, with the risk of injury to the dentist, is eliminated. Cost-effective manufacture of the wheel adaptor is possible by virtue of the fact that the head (12) can be moulded from plastic. <IMAGE>
