For the mass production of electrodes for high-pressure discharge lamps having a favourable transition from glow discharge to arc discharge, a coil with or without intervals is wound on a tungsten core wire as an electrode bar. The interval makes it easier to weld the coil onto a molybdenum film without damage. Once the electrode has been cut to length from the endless electrode strand formed in this way, by plasma or in a mechanical way, the core wire and the coil wire can be welded to one another at the ends of the electrodes towards the discharge space. <IMAGE>
