Oxazolecarboxylates 1 (R=H, alkyl, haloalkyl, cation; R1=alkyl, polyhaloalkyl; R2=alkoxy, halogen, OPh) were prepd. Thus, MeCOCHCHCO2Et was cyclized with HCONH2 to give I (R=Et; R1=Me; R2=H), which was halogenated in the presence of LiN-(CHMe2)2. I (R=Et; R1=Me; R=iodo) at 8.96 kg/ha gave 60% protection to rice and sorghum against 0.56kg/ha triallate.
