PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer without causing troubles such as thermal decomposition, side reactions, unstableness, etc., by subjecting 1,2-dichloroethylene and sodium sulfide to polycondensation at a specific temperature range of relatively low temperature. CONSTITUTION:1,2-Dichloroethylene(preferably trans form) and sodium sulfide are subjected to polycondensation usually in the presence of an organic solvent (organic amide solvent such as preferably N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, etc.) at 10- 55 deg.C, preferably 20-50 deg.C, to give the desired polyvinylene sulfide.
