A moisture meter comprises a balance (54) on whose weighing pan (2) the material to be weighed (1) is deposited and irradiated for the purpose of drying by a radiator (66) during a measurement in which, during drying, the weighing pan (2) is rotated or cyclically agitated with respect to the radiation distribution (R) by a motor (70) via a friction wheel (72) and the drive is decoupled from the balance by lifting the weighing pan (2) or lowering the friction wheel (72), for example, by actuating the electromagnets (79, 79a). The drying and the temperature distribution are accelerated or rendered more uniform by mounting a ventilator wheel (76) on the drive shaft (71) of the friction wheel (72).
