In a process for producing a velour fabric by means of a double-section warp-knitting machine (1), two fabric webs (5,6) connected to one another by means of pile yarns (7) are manufactured. The pile yarns (7) consist of a thermosettable material. Before the pile yarns are cut, the fabric webs (5,6) are subjected to heat treatment for the purpose of setting the pile yarns (7) in the fabric ground. In an apparatus for carrying out this process, there are arranged in a heating zone (H) between the warp-knitting machine (1) and a following device (17) two heating devices (8,9) which extend over the width of the fabric webs and between which the fabric webs (5,6) can be guided through. <IMAGE>
