The invention relates to the levitation smelting process, in which a suspension of fine-grained ore or concentrate and oxygen or oxygen-enriched air is passed downwards through the reaction zone (2), whereupon the direction of the suspension stream is changed essentially towards the side, so that the molten and solid particles present in the suspension stream impinge the melt present underneath the reaction zone, additional gas being blown into the reaction zone. To precipitate the molten and solid particles entrained by the suspension stream already in the reaction zone, additional gas is blown essentially tangentially into the reaction zone, in order to fling the said molten and solid particles to the periphery of the reaction zone and thus to separate them from the gases. The additional gas-feeding device consists of one or more nozzles (7) extending essentially tangentially through the wall of the reaction shaft (2). <IMAGE> |
