The present invention relates to a compact high-temperature and high-pressure gas cell integrated in a heatable metal block. Because of the very short light path, the spacing of the windows has to be maintained as precisely as possible, and this is achieved by means of seals (6) which are as hard as possible on the outside of the windows (4). The windows (4) are sealed from the gas space (1) by a softer seal (5), crushing of the soft seal (5) being prevented by an additional, harder sealing ring (7). To thermally insulate the windows (4) and to prevent condensation on the inside of the windows (4), they are also surrounded on the outside by chambers (10) whose windows (13) no longer have to be pressure-resistant. <IMAGE>
