A freezer (1) having several compartments has an evaporator (2) which consists of a refrigerant-conducting pipe coil (5) and also several plates (3,4) which serve for the storage of frozen goods. The lateral edges of the plates (3,4) are received by guide rails (11) arranged on the inner side of the side walls (12) of the freezer. The pipe coil (5) runs in a serpentine form in the region of the plates. In a special embodiment, the plates are formed as composite plates, with two spaced-apart plates forming a cavity between them through which the serpentine curved pipe coil (5) passes. <IMAGE>
