PURPOSE:To permit the highly accurate working of a lacked spherical body with a machine tool by a method wherein a work is rotated about the center line of the spherical surface to be finished and is worked by a tool rotating about an axial line passing through said center line and orthogonal thereto and moving on said axial line. CONSTITUTION:A cutting or grinding tool is held by a tool stand on the moving axial line 5 with a supporting rod, the loci 9 of truncated sphere are described on the work 1 by the tool 8 under rotating the tool and the work 1 is rotated about the straight line 4, then, the loci 9 move so as to describe the loci 9', 9'', 9''' and a continuous finished spherical surface may be obtained. Here, the locus, formed by the rotation of the tool 8, is formed at both end rims (d) of the working spherical surface in the rotary axis of the work or the outside thereof and thereby obtaining a desired working spherical surface. For this purpose, the rotating diameter of the tool 8 is made equal to or wider than the width d1 of the working spherical surface of the work. Accordingly, a high working accuracy may be obtained by a normal lathe which is simpler in the structure as compared with an NC lathe or a copying lathe. |
