PURPOSE:To carry out easily saccharification of a hydrolyzate of a plant material containing lignocellulose with an enzyme following hydrolysis, by heating the plant material containing lignocellulose in the presence of water or an aqueous solution of organic or inorganic acid by microwave, so that it is hydrolyzed. CONSTITUTION:A plant material containing lignocellulose, such as wood, bagasse, rice straw, etc. is processed into chips of thin pieces or powder, irradiated with microwave in the presence of <=20 times as much water by weight or aqueous solution of organic or inorganic acid having <=0.2N concentration in a closed container, so that it is heated rapidly at >=180 deg.C, preferably at 180-260 deg.C.
