PURPOSE:To attain control of exposure with high accuracy by using an image pickup means and a photometry means in common and reduces the exposure time for photometry shorter than the exposure time for photography to eliminate the need for an external photometry element and to attain aperture control for plural times. CONSTITUTION:When a switch 11a is depressed, an exposure time Tv for photography is inputted from an exposure time set circuit 8, and when Tv <1/60sec, the Tv and the exposure time Tc for photometry are matched, a terminal (a) of an SW1 of a gain control time 10 is selected and the gain is formed into (1). When Tv >1/60sec, the time Tc is taken as 1/60sec. when Tv is 1/30, 1/15, 1/8sec, then the gain is selected to (2), (4), (8) respectively by selecting terminals (b), (c), (d). When the operation above is finished, a CCD 3 is brought into exposure state for the photometry, and an image pickup output is read from the CCD 3 after the time Tc is elapsed and the holding of the circuit 5 is released. The above operation is repeated until a swithc 11b is depressed for attaining much accurate exposure control. when the switch 11b is depressed, a drive circuit 9 brings the CCD 3 into the exposure state. When the time Tv is elapsed, the CCD 3 is read and the signal is recorded on a recording circuit 6.
