PURPOSE:In deflecting area constituted of an electron beam deflecting means, means adjoining said deflecting means and an insulator arranged between said means, to obtain a clear display by arranging the surface of insulator at the position recessed from the surface of deflection electrode. CONSTITUTION:A line cathode is provided as an electron beam source while G1 and G2 electrodes 41, 42 for taking out electron beam from the line cathode, vertical deflection electrode 43 for deflecting electron beam and G3, G4 electrodes for controlling electron beam are provided sequentially to project electron beam to a light emitting means or screen. The electrode 43 is constituted of an insulated substrate 46 and a conductor 47 where the substrate 46 is formed concave to be arranged at the position recessed from the deflection electrode plane at the portion 48 adjoining to the electrodes 42, 44. Consequently influence onto the potential distribution in the deflection area due to impingement of electron beam against the surface of insulator through deflection of elctron beam can be eliminated, resulting in clear display. |
