PURPOSE:To obtain a seal material excellent in flame resistance, shock resistance and abrasion resistance, by producing a seal material from a metallic material consisting of at least one silicide, nitride or carbide of at least one metal selected from Group IVa, Group Va or Group VIa of the Periodic Table. CONSTITUTION:At least one silicide, nitride or carbide of at least one metal selected from Group IVa, Group Va or Group VIa of the Periodic Table is used as a metallic material consisting of a hard metal to produce a main body 1 of the seal material having an octagonal cross-sectional shape. The main body 1 of the seal material may be contained in a containing case wherein a supporting base 2 is provided with a rising part 3 at one end thereof, is provided at its upper surface with two elongate grooves for conaining the main body 1, and recessed holes 6 for inserting a seal face part 5 of the main body 1 therein are provided at the inside part of the rising part. The seal material will not disappear or be deformed even on an earthquake, a fire or the like, and when it is formed into a seal, the seal will not be chipped or abraded. |
