AN ASSEMBLY FOR MOUNTING ELEVATOR GUIDE RAILS

In order to prevent compression and possible buckling of an elevator guide rail on settlement of a building, the rail 18 is mounted to the wall 20 of its shaft by a plurality of special clip assemblies 10 at spaced attachment points. Each assembly comprises a substantially rigid forged steel retaining member 12 fixed to the wall 20 by a nut 24 engaging an embedded stud 21. Sandwiched between member 12 and the rail 18 is a resilient spacer member having a curved portion 16 partially flattened by the tightening of member 12 to provide a resilient hold down force on the rail 18 yet permitting at least longitudinal movement of the rail 18 whereby to avoid compression forces caused by building settlement.
