PURPOSE:To obtain a recording sheet having excellent chromogenic characteristics, excellent stability, and excellent fastness to heat or pressure by using a fluoran compound represented by a specific formula. CONSTITUTION:As a chromogenic agent, one or two or more of the compounds of the formula I are used or in combination with another chromogenic agent to manufacture a heat-sensitive or pressure-sensitive recording sheet. The fluoran compounds of the formula I are obtained by condensation of a carboxylic acid derivative of the formula II with a substituted aminophenol derivative of the formula III and then ring-closing treatment of the condensate. In the formulas R1 is a 5-8C alkyl, R2 is an 8C or less alkoxyalkyl or alkoxyalkoxyalkyl, R3 is H or methyl, R4 is the same as R2 or an 8C or less alkyl or cyclohexyl, with Br atom, Cl atom, OH group at beta-position, and R5 is H or methyl. |
