PURPOSE:To make it possible to control the surface roughness of a rolled steel plate within a desired range of roughness, by measuring the surface roughness of the steel plate continuously during the rolling. CONSTITUTION:Helium neon laser from a laser light source 1 is applied to a running steel plate 4, and the reflected laser light beam is received by a phototube 2 and converted into an electric signal. The low frequency component of the electric signal is removed by a bandpass filter 6. The signal obtained as a result is sent to an average roughness (Ra) operator 7, a maximum ridge height (Rmax) operator 8, and the number of ridge (PPi) operator 9, and the signals are processed. The outputs from the operators 7, 8, and 9 are inputted to a recorder 10 and a display device 11. A line speed signal from a pulse generator 5 is inputted to the operators 7, 8, and 9. |
