The subject of the present invention is a method for recovering hydrocarbons at the surface of water and an apparatus for the implementation of this method. This apparatus is characterised in that it comprises a cone 1, the external surface of which is covered with an oil-absorbing material, means 12 for driving this cone about its shaft 3, a portal frame 13 for supporting these driving means, which is designed to keep the shaft of the cone vertical and has a height such that the tip of the cone is immersed in the sheet of water. It relates to a method for the selective pumping of hydrocarbons contained in water, and an apparatus for the implementation of this method. <IMAGE>
