PURPOSE:To make is possible to easily reduce the size of a droplet with good accuracy, by applying pressure to a liquid receiving chamber in such a state that the leading end position of the liquid in a nozzle is retracted by a predetermined distance. CONSTITUTION:When the size of a droplet 5 is set to a vertical axis and the distance (l) between the chip of a nozzle 4 and the leading end position of an ink liquid 3 is set to a horizontal axis, the size of the droplet is changed as shown by the curve even if same pulse voltage is applied. When pulse voltage is applied to a piezoelectric body 1, the piezoelectric body 1 is distorted so as to increase the volume of a container 2 and the liquid pressure in the container 2 is reduced. If the pressure in the container 2 is reduced, the ink liquid 3 in the nozzle 1 is sucked to the container side and the leading end position of the ink liquid 3 is retracted over the distance (l) from the chip of the nozzle 1. Therefore, when pulse voltage is subsequently turned OFF while the piezoelectric body 1 is restored to the original shape and the liquid 3 is discharged by pressure at this time, the diameter of the obtained droplet 5 can be reduced. |
