PURPOSE:To obtain a high performance magnetic recording medium having excellent wear resistance and good durability by incorporating alpha-Fe2O3 powder and Al2O3 powder having average single particle diameter (the diameter of one particle which is not aggregated) respectively in a specific range on a magnetic layer formed of magnetic metallic powder. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic coating prepd. by incorporating alpha-Fe2O3 powder having 0.5-1.5mu average single particle diameter and Al2O3 powder having 0.2- 0.5mu the same particle diameter in magnetic metallic powder of Fe, Co, Ni, etc. or their alloy powder at 1.0-8.0wt% by the weight of the magnetic metallic powder is coated on a base and is dried, thereby forming a magnetic layer. A fatty acid having >=45 deg.C m.p. is further preferably incorporated in the magnetic coating to improve the lubricity of the magnetic layer. A magnetic recording medium which is highly resistant to wear, does not wear a magnetic head and has an excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic and durability is thus obtd. |
