A fibrous textile material (e.g. a lap or sliver) passes through a spray chamber where conventional lubricating or dressing fluids are sprayed onto the material. A dye is mixed with the lubricating or dressing fluids to dye the material which then pref. passes through an assembly of pressing rollers to squeeze the dye into the material. Subsequently the material is advanced on e.g. a conveyor to a carding or combing device. The cost of the process (e.G. time, energy etc.) is reduced since the dye operation is combined with conventional dressing or lubricating operations. The friction between the fibres ensures good distribution of the dye.
