A device for adjustably connecting furniture, in particular chairs, comprises a pair of interacting connecting parts which, for their mutual connection with variable distance in between, each comprise a fastening region, of which one is designed as a locking tongue. In order to permit an adjustment of the pair of interacting connecting parts in such a way that, when they are closest together, an arrangement of their fastening regions connected to the furniture which is essentially adjacent with no distance in between is achieved with little expenditure on manufacture and material as well as ease of handling, the locking tongue is formed by a longitudinally flexible, serrated detention rail and the insert sleeve is formed directly on the fastening region and is provided with a guide channel guiding the detention rail upon its insertion into an automatic detention engagement with a mating serration on the sleeve side.
