The invention relates to a testing apparatus for rod-shaped tobacco articles, having a resilient sealing member (27) which encompasses the articles, especially cigarettes (3), in an annular manner at their ends for the purpose of introducing an axially oriented flow of test air and, even at relatively high testing speeds, ensures that the cigarettes passing through the test zone are provided with a reliable and simply constructed seal which treats the cigarettes gently, in that it is provided with an inward-projecting weakened annular section (37) of wall which, in the event of axial stressing and compression of the sealing body by the end surface of the conveyor (1) carrying the cigarettes, deforms radially inwards, enters into annular contact with the exterior surface of the cigarettes, and thus encloses the latter in a sealing manner. <IMAGE>
