A salient pole, carrying the energising winding (4), of an electrical machine has a solid pole core (3) and a laminated pole shoe (2). The latter is attached to the pole core (3) via axial attachment means (7), in particular adjusting springs, which are arranged in the lateral boundary surfaces (6) above the energising winding (4). Provided on each side of the pole shoe laminates (1) is a radially inwardly extending attachment (10) whose outer side surface (11) rests against a radially directed surface (12) of the pole core. The groove (9), which is located in the pole core (3), for holding the axial attachment means (7) also runs over the end surface (13). An attachment (15) of an end plate (14) engages into it there, which end plate is connected via further attachment means (17) to the end (13) of the pole core (3) and rests on the surface of the end part of the energising winding (4). The resultant centrifugal forces are thus in each case transmitted as compression stresses to the pole core (3). <IMAGE>
