PURPOSE:To store easily the charge quantity for each unit area which is needed for coloring and erasion, to facilitate the easy holding of potential of a counter electrode that at the same time to avoid an undesired display due to the soil of an electrolyte solution, by using an active carbon fiber to the counter electrode of an ECD. CONSTITUTION:An active carbon electrode having a 100-4,000m<2>/g specific surface area is used to a counter electrode of an ECD. It is said that platinum or gold, etc. are desirable for a counter electrode of an ECD using a viologen salt, etc. but it is expensive. Therefore a mixture of HWO3 and graphite is used for an ECD using WO3 in terms of the cost. However, the HWO3 produces the variance of display contrast since the potential of the counter electrode changes by the variation of the quantity of the HWO3. In this respect, the active carbon fiber contributes to easy storage of the change quantity per unit area that is needed for coloring and erasion. In addition, the potential of the counter electrode is held stably and an undesired display due to the soil of an electrolyte solution can be avoided. |
