The invention relates to a milking device with a milking tool which consists of teat cups and a collecting piece and which is connected to a milk transport pipe via a milk hose, in which the collecting piece is supplied with atmospheric air in the relief phases. During these phases, the atmospheric air pushes the milk through the milk hose into the milk transport pipe. In the milking phases, the collecting piece is then reconnected immediately via the connecting hose to the vacuum of the milk transport pipe, the air pipe or the rinsing pipe. The quantity of milk situated in the milk hose thus has no influence on the vacuum level inside the teat cups. <IMAGE>
