In multicylinder machines for producing webs of paper or cardboard, a number of cylinder moulds are provided of which one forms the one outer layer of the web and a second one forms the other outer layer and further cylinder moulds form the interlayers of the web. For successive pick-off and combination of the individual layers, a pick-up cloth touches the individual forming wires one after the other. To ensure that the side, facing the wire, of the two outer layers is located on the outside in the finished web, the forming wire for one outer layer revolves in the direction opposite to that of the forming wire for the other outer layer. In addition, a further pick-up cloth is provided which takes one formed outer layer off from the corresponding forming wire and feeds it to the first-mentioned pick-up cloth for forming the further layers.
