For a guide for a motor-vehicle sliding door, by means of which the door is displaceable first approximately vertically out of the door cutout and then on a path of movement parallel to the direction of the vehicle, there is provided on the door a first fixed point guided along a carrier rail and a second fixed point which is connected to a guide linkage engaging horizontally into the driver's cab. The guide linkage consists of an articulated lever having two legs which are connected by means of a toggle joint and of which the free end of the rear leg is articulated on the vehicle at a fixed location and the free end of the front leg is articulated on the door at the second fixed point. Furthermore, there is fastened to the front leg at least one guide member which engages into at least one first guide track which is retained on the vehicle and which allows only a displacement along the path of movement when the door is being opened and closed.
