The present invention relates to an arrangement for identifying the basic speech frequency or basic speech period (pitch) in real time from an unlimited-band speech signal, where the speech signal comprising a fundamental wave and at least one harmonic is fed via a bandpass filter BP and a following attenuator DG to an evaluation circuit AW. In the signal path between the attenuator DG and the evaluation circuit AW, it is proposed to arrange a filter FL whose limit frequency can be re-adjusted by a control device SE according to the frequency of the fundamental wave component of the speech signal.
